Mental Health First Aid is essential in the workplace. As an approved training partner for MHFA England, we deliver a range of training programmes that encourage a positive approach to mental health and equip delegates with the essential skills to become a Mental Health Champion or a Mental Health First Aider.
1 in 4 people experience poor mental health, and because of the stigma still surrounding it, people often find it difficult to talk about. Mental Health First Aiders are there to reduce the stigma, and spot the signs in someone who may be experiencing poor mental health or substance abuse. They are trained to listen, provide non-judgemental support and can intervene early so that they can provide that crucial support which enables those struggling to seek professional help and resources.
A Mental Health Champion promotes overall well-being. They raise awareness of mental health in the workplace and challenge any stigmas present in order to build a healthy mental health workplace. A Mental Health First Aider provides more specific support and uses the ALGEE action plan (Approach, Listen, Give reassurance, Encourage to seek help, Encourage to use support strategies) so that they are able to spot the signs of those struggling and encourage them to seek professional help.
Please note, Mental Health First Aiders are required to complete our Mental Health refresher training every three years for their certificate to remain valid. Please enquire for more information on this option.
We offer three different levels of Mental Health First Aid:
Mental Health First Aid Introduction - A four-hour course designed to raise awareness of mental illness so that a suitable action plan can be put in place in the workplace
Mental Health First Aid One Day - A one-day course that qualifies you as an MHFA Champion and is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan
Mental Health First Aid Two Day - A two-day in-depth course that qualifies you as a MHFAider and builds on the one-day version to gain the confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
In addition, we also offer Suicide First Aid training in association with the National Centre for Suicide Prevention Education and Training (NCSPET) and accredited by City and Guilds of London. For more information, please click here.
Training can be delivered in-house, virtually, or with a blend of both formats. Should there be an increased interest in any of these topics, we are also able to arrange training virtually as an open, public event for individuals to attend.
