We all work in very competitive environments and one important differential nowadays is quality so we need to plan quality into every aspect of our business.
Managers need to be able to plan use a range of project management techniques. They need to be able to develop Project Charters, Business Cases etc to establish the project and then use planning techniques such as Stage-Gate System, Network Diagrams and Gantt Charts to effectively plan and control the project. Finally they need to be able to effectively assess risk, eliminate the risk or establish contingency plans should the risk occur.
To successfully manage quality planning is more than just knowing what tools and techniques to use. Softer skills such as leading quality teams and understanding team roles and how teams develop are also key to success in any organisation.
We also need to understand our customer and stakeholder needs and be able to transform them into requirements using tools such as CTQ Trees, Affinity Diagrams, House of Quality and QFD etc.
